Illuminated Threads: A South Perth Skyline
Series of ten hand-tufted wool artworks with integrated fibre optic lighting
Illuminated Threads: A South Perth Skyline is a large-scale installation consisting of ten hand-tufted textile works inspired by the architecture, landscape and night-time character of South Perth. Each piece incorporates fibre optic lighting, creating illuminated surfaces that shift between sculpture, drawing and textile. The project explores the relationship between urban environments and sensory experience, translating familiar landmarks into tactile forms that glow with subtle points of light. By combining traditional rug-making techniques with contemporary lighting technology, the work challenges conventional expectations of textile art and invites audiences to experience the city through texture, colour and illumination. The installation reflects my ongoing interest in creating immersive, accessible artworks that engage viewers through multiple sensory pathways.
