ParkART 2022 – Touch Activated Tactile Sound Wall
Hand tufted wool, stainless steel sphere
Hand tufted textile installation, conductive technology and sound
Developed for ParkART 2022 in the City of Melville, this site-responsive work combined textiles, sound and public interaction. A hand-tufted textile installation was wrapped around a tree within Ken Douglas Reserve and incorporated touch-activated sound elements. Visitors were invited to physically engage with the work, triggering audio responses through touch and transforming the artwork into an interactive sensory experience. The project explored new possibilities for accessibility and participation within public art by encouraging audiences to experience the work through touch as well as sight. This early experiment with tactile sound technology laid important foundations for my ongoing exploration of multi-sensory practice and directly informs current developments in interactive textile and sound-based artworks.
